# 10-6-2026 PSD Board Meeting - Work Session

At the October 6, 2026 Polk School District Board work session, officials reviewed a proposed 2026–27 E-rate technology-infrastructure refresh. The proposal covers firewalls, fiber switches, wireless equipment, and related network infrastructure; the presenter said replacing the firewall with new hardware and five years of support would cost about $95,000 before E-rate assistance, compared with approximately $175,000 to keep the existing firewall for five more years. The district negotiated seven years of manufacturer support at the cost of five and warned that delaying wireless and PoE switch upgrades could raise costs by as much as 30%. The board was asked to consider the proposal at its October 13 meeting; no approval vote occurred at this work session. The board also heard that the Educational Foundation would award $5,000 each to First Foundation, Cedartown Library, and Rockmart Library for literacy partnerships.

The board approved a resolution related to the completed Rockmart High School HVAC project so the district can seek reimbursement. The RHS tilting skillet item and an extension of the school nutrition uniform bid were slated for consideration at the October 13 meeting, with the uniform extension recommended for approval; no vote on either was recorded here. Overnight field trips were also presented for recommendation. Other discussion focused on the next school calendar, with the superintendent planning to present calendar options at the November meeting. The board approved personnel as presented, subject to the stated background-check and prior-school-system documentation conditions.
