# Land Use 10-7-26 pt. 1

The LaSalle County Board Land Use Committee met on October 7, 2026. The committee discussed its building-inspection arrangement with SafeBuilt, including service levels, remote inspections, and whether to seek a revised contract. Staff cited a monthly SafeBuilt bill of about $2,000 during a low-permit month and estimated recent annual costs at roughly $100,000–$150,000. Members discussed comparing year-end costs and gathering feedback from contractors before deciding whether the current arrangement meets residents’ needs or whether alternatives, such as county staffing, should be considered. No contract award, spending approval, or procurement vote was taken; staff agreed to seek feedback on the program.

The committee also discussed proposed data-center ordinance provisions, including water-use studies, wastewater, farm drainage, emissions, decommissioning, and noise, and asked that work on ordinance language continue; no ordinance changes were adopted. A proposed enforcement amendment allowing the county to seek injunctive relief is expected to be prepared for future committee consideration and referral to the Zoning Board of Appeals. Other updates covered upcoming tire and electronics recycling events, a water-study cost-sharing inquiry, solid-waste inspections, and building-permit activity.
