# Board of Education Regular Charter Meeting, October 6, 2026

At its October 6, 2026 regular charter meeting, the San Diego Unified School District Board of Education unanimously approved a five-year renewal for Empower Language Academy and a material revision allowing it to add grades 7–8 beginning in 2028–29. The board also unanimously approved renewal of High Tech High’s charter and a material revision consolidating seven Point Loma schools into one TK–12 charter. Staff noted that the consolidation would combine official state reporting while the district could continue requesting site-level data. High Tech High’s projections showed deficits in later years, with its fund balance projected to fall below the district’s minimum reserve in 2028–29 and be exhausted in 2029–30; staff said the school would need to increase revenue or reduce expenditures.

The board approved a two-year renewal for Harriet Tubman Village Charter School after discussion of its low performance, corrective action plan, declining enrollment, and projected deficits; staff projected its ending balance would remain above the required minimum reserve. Public hearings were held on renewal petitions for Ingenuity Charter School, O’Farrell Charter School, and Gompers Preparatory Academy, with recommendations and decisions deferred to later meetings. No procurement activity, contract awards, or purchasing decisions were identified. O’Farrell representatives noted prior district-funded campus modernization work, but no new funding or spending action was taken.
