# Ways and Means October 6, 2026

The October 6, 2026 Ways and Means meeting included two approved spending motions: an increase of $180,769 to Greenfield Community Energy and Technology’s FY2027 expenditure budget, funded from its revenues and general operations, and an appropriation of $271.91 from the Griswold Greenfield Tap and Eye District Conservation Fund 602 to repair two deteriorating trail boardwalks. No other contract award or purchasing vote was recorded. Assessors briefed the committee on annual property valuations and said a vendor is assisting with the valuation model; the work and state certification may take longer than hoped. Discussion covered commercial assessment data, tax-rate options, and possible residential and small-business exemptions, which could require substantial additional staff. No exemption or tax-rate decision was made.

The committee also received an update that Scanland and Associates, a local auditor, was being brought on board. Tax collections were improving, following nearly $700,000 in uncollected bills in FY2025; an ongoing audit had identified some items, but officials said they would not characterize the findings before the audit was complete. The next tax classification hearing was expected by December. No additional procurement action was identified.
