# Canada Boosts Nova Scotia Defense Investment

DEFSEC Atlantic in Halifax drew approximately 3,500 registrants in one account and more than 3,000 in another, with participants from over 20 countries, as Canada committed more than C$81 billion over five years in Budget 2025 to rebuild and modernize the Canadian Armed Forces. The event signals growing international interest in Canada’s defense market, while the funding commitment could support future procurement activity in Nova Scotia; the signals identify no specific solicitation or contract award. Areas cited as potential sources of demand include shipbuilding, submarine and aircraft maintenance, naval technology, advanced manufacturing, space infrastructure, workforce training, and supporting infrastructure.

- Contractors serving the defense market can evaluate how their capabilities align with these cited areas and with potential workforce and infrastructure needs in Nova Scotia.
- International participation points to increased competition and partnership activity; Colin Stephenson specifically noted interest from NATO countries and beyond as Canada diversifies procurement partnerships.
- The C$81 billion commitment is a broad funding signal, not a single contract opportunity. Businesses should not treat it as an active solicitation; no procurement timetable or contact was provided.
