# Fair Rent Commission 10-07-2026

The City of Norwalk Fair Rent Commission met on October 7, 2026. The commission approved the September 2 minutes with corrections, heard no public comment, and reviewed open and new fair-rent complaints. For several open cases, members voted to take no action while awaiting signed leases, withdrawals, or other updates; they voted to close cases where a withdrawal had been received or a new lease resolved the complaint. The commission also closed a case after confirming the tenant had agreed to a $100 increase with a 30-day notice provision. New complaints were accepted concerning a $374 Section 8 contract increase, a $750 month-to-month increase, and a $700 increase. A smoke-free-building complaint was not accepted because the tenant had moved out and the issue was determined to be outside the commission’s jurisdiction. No procurement, contract-award, or purchasing activity was identified.

The coordinator reported assisting tenants with flooding preparedness, rent increases, habitability concerns, and eviction processes. During discussion, the commission clarified that landlords must provide heat when temperatures fall below 65 degrees, rather than relying solely on an October 15 start date. The chair also discussed the October 20 city boards-and-commissions open house and staffing arrangements; no related spending decision was made.
