# Regular Meeting of Greenwood, SC County Council

At the July 7, 2026 Regular Meeting of Greenwood County Council, members considered competing actions on proposed data-center zoning. After extensive public comment about water and power demand, environmental and noise impacts, rural siting, and the need for further study, Council approved a one-year moratorium on data-center approvals on second reading by a 4–3 vote. A separate motion to amend the proposed zoning text to exclude data centers from I1, I2, and RDD districts also passed 4–3; the transcript does not clearly capture the subsequent final vote on the amended zoning ordinance. No specific data-center project or developer contract was before Council. The zoning decisions could affect future data-center development and related utility and infrastructure opportunities in the county.

Council unanimously approved a 30-foot easement to Greenwood Metropolitan District for maintenance of a sewer extension serving the county-owned North Greenwood Industrial Park Phase 2 site-development and spec-building project; the sewer line had already been installed. Council also considered purchasing the property at 619 Edgefield Street, adjacent to Park Plaza, for $70,000 plus closing costs, with a motion and second to approve; the final vote is not clear in the transcript. No vendor contract awards or procurement selections were identified.
