# Iowa City City Council Work Session of October 6, 2026

The City of Iowa City City Council held a work session on October 6, 2026. Public Works presented an overview of its six divisions, approximately 170 employees, and $55.5 million annual budget. The discussion covered ongoing capital work, including Court Street construction and a completed composting pad at the landfill, now in use; an EPA grant-supported compost turner is expected to speed compost production. Council members also noted prior investment in a street-striping truck and that engineering staff oversee roughly 120–130 capital projects at various stages. No new contract awards, bids, or procurement votes were reported; the discussion focused on operations and project progress.

Council agreed that the city manager or a designee would represent Iowa City on the Iowa City Community School District’s boundary-analysis community committee. Members also discussed a planned presentation on food stability and updates from a regional data-center work group, which is developing shared guiding principles and definitions. Student-government updates and reports from boards and commissions were also heard.
