# Board of Education Meeting 10/5/2026

Berkeley County Schools Board of Education meeting, October 5, 2026: The board approved a contract with the Children’s Literacy Initiative (CLI) for academic instructional mentor support, up to $33,650. The district said the contract followed a competitive RFP process with two proposals and CLI received the highest evaluation score. After discussion about the balance of virtual and in-person coaching, the board approved the contract 4–1 with a modified scope reducing virtual coaching sessions and applying the difference toward individualized in-person coaching. The board also approved a Head Start contract for the 2026–27 school year, estimated at $1,022,571, providing up to 11 pre-K classrooms—one more than the prior year.

The superintendent reported continuing delays on the Mountain Ridge Primary construction project by Warner Construction. The original contract set substantial completion for July 30; October 22 had been communicated by the contractor as a revised target but was not agreed to by the district. Warner submitted a revised schedule projecting substantial completion on November 25, and the district said it was seeking a reliable recovery plan and would consider contractual remedies if performance was not corrected. The district is preparing to continue temporary-campus operations if needed. Inwood Primary construction was reported to be progressing, with 276 cubic yards of concrete poured that day and block walls expected to begin the following week. No board vote on either construction project was reported.
