# October 6, 2026 City Council Work Session and Regular Meeting

The City of Sandy Springs held a City Council work session and regular meeting on October 6, 2026. In the work session, Visit Sandy Springs presented a tourism impact study reporting $434.9 million in direct visitor spending in 2025 and $36 million in state and local tax revenue. HRNA Advisors presented an updated housing needs assessment; staff said its findings will inform the comprehensive plan, with policy choices and follow-up discussions to come. No procurement action was taken on either presentation.

In the regular meeting, Council approved, 4–2, submission of a pre-application for a Georgia Outdoor Stewardship Program grant for Springway Trail segment 2C. The city would seek up to $3 million; the estimated project cost is about $13.99 million, with $6.995 million available from city capital funds, $1 million pledged by the PATH Foundation, $30,000 pledged by the Sandy Springs Conservancy, and roughly $2.966 million to be identified in future budgets. Members discussed trail alignment, safety, privacy, parking, environmental impacts, and the project’s cost. Council also considered a $700,000 FY2027 budget amendment for the Mount Vernon Highway multi-use path and intersection project, bringing its construction contract to approximately $13.23 million, a 6.9% increase; the amendment reallocates Tier One uncommitted TSPLOST funds, and the item proceeded to a vote. Council approved participation in a joint Byrne Justice Assistance Grant application, with Sandy Springs eligible for $14,268 and no match required. Finally, Council deferred for two weeks a proposed transition to a Sigma-administered, self-funded employee health benefits plan, projected at up to $10.65 million, to allow further review of claims oversight, cost controls, and plan protections.
