# BOE Work Session 10-5-26

The KIBSD Board of Education held a work session on October 5, 2026. The board discussed the superintendent transition; the chair said former Superintendent Dan Brigman resigned effective September 30 and was not bought out. The board heard presentations on student behavior supports and state assessment results, and discussed possible additional staffing to address class sizes and academic needs. No contract awards, bids, procurement approvals, or spending votes were identified. The superintendent also reported that a University of Alaska Fairbanks planetarium visit was enabled by a $7,000 donation from Alaska Aerospace and another partner; this was described as a community-supported opportunity, not a district purchasing action.

The board discussed forming a technology committee to advise on device use across grade levels, a potential device-refresh purchasing decision, and AI’s instructional effectiveness. Members discussed committee scope and representation, with follow-up planning with the interim superintendent; no committee action or purchase was approved at the work session. The board also discussed the Community Budget Advisory Committee and possible future budget decisions, including staffing, but made no spending commitments or formal votes.
