# City Council - August 26th, 2026 3:30PM Meeting

The regular Bakersfield City Council meeting was held August 26, 2026. Public comments included a proposal for a city-supported mentorship and cooperative pilot to help residents develop small businesses, as well as comments on sanctuary-city policy and the possible effect of that policy on federal grant funding. Other speakers addressed civic service and rule-of-law concerns. These were public comments; the transcript records no council action on them.

In closed session, the council interviewed applicants for chief assistant city attorney and offered the position to Ashley Zambrano. The council also gave direction to the city attorney regarding existing litigation in a unanimous vote of six, with the vice mayor absent. No procurement activity, contract awards, purchasing decisions, or spending approvals were identified.
