# Assembly Regular Meeting 10-06-26

The Matanuska-Susitna Borough Assembly’s regular meeting on October 6, 2026, approved its consent agenda, including an agreement with Drennan Construction and Consulting to extract about 50,000 tons of borough-owned pit-run material for the Port MacKenzie barge ramp project; an extension of Valley General Construction’s Contract 25191B completion date to August 31, 2027, for the Crimson View and Heavenly Metals street improvements; and Bid 2719B awarding Rosenbauer a $641,917 contract for a Talkeetna-area water tender. The assembly also approved Ordinance 26-109 appropriating $238,000 in transportation-bond interest earnings for community transportation projects, and Ordinance 26-110 and Resolution 26-102 accepting and allocating $331,569 in FY2027 Community Assistance Program funds to 21 unincorporated communities. An information memorandum reported completion of Contract 26108 with JRF Enterprises for $102,380.78 for Birch Creek and Mastodon fish-passage improvements.

The assembly approved, over one member’s opposition with another recused, a $5,487,300 award to Orion Construction to build a household hazardous waste facility, funded through the solid-waste enterprise fund rather than property taxes. It also accepted a $500 Best Friends Animal Society grant for animal-care facility programs. The assembly amended its previously adopted approval of a $300,000 Rasmussen Foundation grant for Matanuska River Park and campground upgrades to expressly oppose Alaska Long Trail designation as a National Scenic Trail. A proposed $15,000 assembly-reserve contribution for restoring the Butte Community sign failed. Members and the public debated the proposed Bogard–Inkstrom connector routes and their potential costs, but no new route funding decision was made; the reconsideration item was withdrawn from the agenda.
