# Augusta Commission Meeting

At the October 6, 2026 Augusta Commission meeting, commissioners approved two construction awards: Morgan Corporation received a $4,767,795 contract for Phase Three of the Deans Bridge Road Solid Waste Facility, and JHC Corporation was selected for Borin Road Park improvements at $2,342,342. The park award passed 9–2; discussion included whether the grant-funded work could meet the October 31 deadline for incurring costs, with reimbursement documentation due by the end of December. Commissioners also discussed the existing solid-waste collection contract, including the decision to use one provider rather than the department’s recommended two, the current provider Coastal, and the contract’s 25% local small-business participation requirement. A speaker raised concerns that fees for construction plans may deter small businesses from bidding; no change to the fee process was decided. Separately, a $13.6 million state allocation for a regional veterans cemetery was reported, with groundbreaking anticipated November 13 and completion targeted for Memorial Day 2028.

The commission approved a data-center ordinance establishing regulatory standards for future development by a 6–5 vote, following debate over notice and public input, noise limits, water-use reporting, buffers and other safeguards. A proposal to hold a further public reading and obtain a subject-matter expert did not prevail. The commission also voted to publish notice and schedule a public hearing on a proposed portion of John’s Road abandonment; no abandonment decision was made. A hookah ordinance was deferred for two weeks. Other public comment included a request for city guidance and potential resources for a veterans’ recovery and housing initiative, without a funding commitment.
