# City of Auburn, Maine, City Council Workshop & Meeting, October 05, 2026

The City of Auburn, Maine, held a council workshop and meeting on October 5, 2026. The workshop discussed a proposed transfer from New Gloucester of roughly five or six Auburn acres within a 71-acre parcel, zoned industrial. New Gloucester prefers to transfer the property rather than sell it; Auburn plans to conduct due diligence, including checking for contamination or remediation needs, before proceeding. The parcel has limited road access, and the city said it would consider possible uses and contact abutting owners. No vote or purchase approval was recorded. The recreation budget review reported FY26 program revenue of $531,000 and expenses of $408,000, including nearly $67,000 in unplanned equipment expenses; staff described changes to improve accounting transparency and said they would continue reviewing fees and operating costs. Competition cheer was discontinued for FY27 because of its costs and the availability of community alternatives.

The council unanimously adopted, on second reading, a zoning amendment concerning the number of people employed in sawmills in the agricultural and resource protection district. It also adopted an order finding the building at 81 Minot Avenue dangerous and requiring its owner to demolish it, remove debris, and stabilize the site, unless an acceptable rehabilitation plan is submitted; the owner must reimburse city expenses. Other than the proposed property transfer and the recreation budget discussion, no contract awards, RFPs, vendor selections, or purchasing approvals were identified.
