# DoD Awards Kymeta Osprey u8 Upgrade Contract

On October 6, 2026, the U.S. Department of Defense awarded Kymeta a development contract to add edge computing, software-defined radio, and networking capabilities to its Osprey u8 satellite terminal through an enhanced modular cartridge. The upgrade is intended to support tactical-edge communications and RF Space Domain Awareness while preserving multi-orbit satellite communications performance and avoiding separate hardware on the host platform. The signals disclose no contract value, contract number, solicitation, or follow-on procurement timeline.

- The award indicates DoD interest in combining satellite connectivity with onboard processing and mission capabilities for tactical-edge use.
- Contractors offering modular edge-computing, software-defined radio, networking, or satellite-terminal capabilities can assess how their products fit similar mission needs.
- Acquisition teams and prospective suppliers should note that this is a development award; the available information does not establish a follow-on procurement or its timing.
