# Planning Commission

The City of Lafayette Planning Commission and Design Review Commission held a joint meeting on October 6, 2026. The main item was an amendment to the previously approved residential project at 3458 Mount Diablo Boulevard. The proposal changes the project from six stories and 31 units to seven stories and 30 units, increases parking from 54 to 56 spaces, removes the previously approved commercial area from the plans as presented, and revises the unit mix and building design. The developer cited market demand and financing considerations; the proposal includes 27 market-rate units and three below-market-rate units. Design Review commissioners raised concerns about the building’s scale, appearance, and reduced unit count, while Planning Commission discussion included the project’s added bedrooms and the need for more information about local housing sales and development activity.

The Planning Commission voted 6–0 to recommend that the City Council adopt the staff-recommended resolution, find the revised project exempt from CEQA, and approve the requested amendment to the conditions of approval. Staff noted that errors in the report would be corrected before the Council review. Staff also agreed to provide a broader update on local housing projects and sales trends. No procurement, contract award, or purchasing activity was identified.
