# Kings County Board of Supervisors Meeting (10/06/2026)

The Kings County Board of Supervisors’ regular meeting on October 6, 2026, approved moving forward with the Government Center remodel financing and project preparation. The estimated project cost is $38.7 million, including about $31 million in construction and $2.3 million in furniture and equipment. The Board selected the financing scenario with a $19 million upfront contribution, a 20-year term, and no capitalized interest; avoiding capitalized interest entails using about $1.335 million to pay off the 2014 AB 900 bond and free county assets for collateral. The motion passed unanimously. Staff expects to bring a bid package for authorization to advertise by year-end, with bids anticipated to close in January 2027; construction is projected to begin in spring 2027. The project renovates three vacant courthouse buildings for public health and other service departments and includes site work and demolition of the former jail. Separately, the Board introduced an ordinance addressing unlawful possession and removal of commercial-grade copper and aluminum; adoption is scheduled for October 13. Estimated implementation and enforcement costs of about $13,307 would be absorbed within existing Sheriff’s Office appropriations, and licensed dealers, recyclers, and other authorized activities are exempt. The Board also approved an Administration records-retention schedule authorizing ongoing destruction of qualifying outdated records, and a development-code amendment related to affordable housing sites.

In reports on other procurement and funding matters, a supervisor noted that the Kings Waste and Recycling Authority approved a three-year contract with Mid Valley, with two additional two-year terms, for unprocessed source-separated recyclables. Supervisors also reported a $233 million regional broadband equity grant across five counties. Upcoming agenda items—not acted on at this meeting—include a Houston Avenue Bridge replacement project, surplus vehicles and equipment for auction, an IT maintenance agreement, and exempt-facility bonds for CalPFA.
