# Cape Girardeau Public Schools #63 - School Board Meeting -August 2026

The Cape Girardeau Public Schools #63 Board of Education meeting on August 25, 2026, included its annual tax-rate hearing and approval of the 2026–27 levy. The board approved a total rate of $4.1567 per $100 of assessed valuation, unchanged since 2009, allocated as $3.5741 to the incidental fund and $0.5826 to debt service. The district estimates revenues of slightly more than $36 million at full collections and budgeted for a 97% collection rate in light of the voter-approved tax freeze. The board also approved renewal of the district-wide Community Eligibility Program for free student breakfast and lunch. No contract awards, bid approvals, vendor selections, or procurement amounts were reported.

Support services reported on capital and facilities work: flood-damage repairs at the middle and junior high schools were complete; tennis-court resurfacing had begun, with new courts expected in October; and auditorium seating, track resurfacing, playground work, and other projects were planned or under discussion. Staff expected to meet with the construction manager about next steps and future proposals and approvals. No spending decisions or project contract approvals were made during these updates. The board also reviewed July finances, school programs, and consent-agenda items, including payment of bills, adult meal prices, bus routes, and AMI plans.
