# 8-18-2026 Cole County Commission Meeting

The Cole County Commission meeting on August 18, 2026, included presentations of the courts’ 2027 budgets. The budgets were largely similar to the prior year, with requests including a $1,000 increase for an equipment service contract following purchases of copiers, scanners, and printers; increased part-time staffing and training costs for the Pioneer Center; and a slight increase in contracted court-security services. The commission noted that salary and health-insurance decisions remained unresolved and that the coming budget would be tight. The commission also approved a $108,359.95 state grant award for the Mustang Drug Task Force.

The commission approved a quick-care clinic services agreement with JC Schools, an agreement with the Jefferson City Fire Department for ladder-truck assistance, and Republic Services’ Public Works renewal rates, which decrease current rates and lock in annual increases of 8% for 2027 and 2028. It also approved raising the county mileage reimbursement rate to 76 cents effective September 1. A possible purchase of a specialized used DNR vehicle through a state surplus auction was discussed, but no purchase was authorized; commissioners requested a written spending limit, advance vehicle inspection, and email coordination before bidding. The commission discussed the 2026 tax levy, with the public hearing and setting of the levy scheduled for the following week.
