# Parking and Public Improvements Commission Meeting - July 23, 2026

The City of Manhattan Beach Parking and Public Improvements Commission met on July 23, 2026, to consider traffic-calming measures on Second Street between Peck Avenue and Aviation Boulevard. Staff presented traffic and speed data, safety conditions, and potential measures including police enforcement, marked crosswalks, flashing stop signs, an electronic speed-awareness sign, and a sidewalk bulb-out. Staff estimated the broader package at about $500,000; the bulb-out alone was estimated at $250,000–$450,000 and would require a capital improvement project and prioritization through the city’s CIP process. Other measures could be implemented sooner within the maintenance budget. No contract award or vendor selection was discussed.

After public comments and commission discussion, the commission voted 3–1 to recommend a package that excludes the sidewalk/bulb-out project, adds restriping Second Street and replacing faded centerline reflectors, and includes a follow-up review after implementation (discussed as approximately six months). The recommendation also includes focused police enforcement. The package will be forwarded to the City Council for consideration; it is not final Council approval. The bulb-out may be revisited after the follow-up study or through the CIP process.
