# CBP Seeks Import Traceability Comments

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) issued an advance notice of proposed rulemaking seeking input on potentially expanded import documentation, business-identifier, and supply-chain traceability requirements. The proposals are not binding at this stage. Importers and CTPAT participants may need to provide foreign export records and should assess their current record-retention, identifier, and technology capabilities before submitting comments by **December 1, 2026** (56 days remaining).

- Companies affected by imports can review whether they can retain and produce foreign export records under the contemplated approach and identify gaps in traceability or business-identifier systems.
- Procurement teams and contractors managing cross-border supply chains can assess whether suppliers and service providers can support the contemplated documentation and data needs.
- Importers and CTPAT participants may submit comments to CBP by December 1; the notice describes potential requirements, not current compliance obligations.
