# Shellfish Commission 10-01-2026

The Norwalk Shellfish Commission met on October 1, 2026, with a quorum present. Commissioners accepted the September 10 minutes and committee reports, then adjourned. The treasurer reported $2,915 in shellfish permit receipts, bringing the balance to $34,912; 182 permits had been sold in the reported batch. No Norwalk contract awards, solicitations, or purchasing decisions were identified. The commission also heard that other municipalities had pursued state funding for shellfish-related work, including a Small Harbor Improvement Projects grant, but no Norwalk funding action was taken.

Discussion focused on shellfish closures following heavy rainfall and a combined sewer overflow, the seasonal status of boating activity, and regional concerns about sewage, development near natural shellfish beds, and possible effects of Manresa Island remediation on nearby shellfish grounds. An update from the state environmental agency was expected the following day. The commission also discussed an upcoming city open house for boards and commissions on October 20; no spending action was associated with it.
