# PXU Governing Board Meeting - October 1, 2026

The Phoenix Union High School District Governing Board’s October 1, 2026 regular meeting included a presentation on voter-authorized funding and capital projects. Staff reported that the district’s 2023 bond authorized $475 million, of which approximately $320 million had been sold; 85% of the bond is designated for non-administrative purposes serving students and campuses. The district also reported an approximately $30 million maintenance-and-operations override and an increase in the capital override allocation from 7% to 10% of the revenue control limit. Projects discussed included campus renovations, HVAC and restroom work, security upgrades, and the Advanced Technical Center (ATC). Staff said the board is expected to consider early procurement of a guaranteed maximum price for ATC long-lead items, including the main power distribution service and site preparation, at its November meeting. Construction is tentatively scheduled to begin in May 2027, with completion anticipated in June 2028. No ATC contract award or procurement approval was taken at this meeting.

The board also discussed the ATC’s planned career and technical education programs and forthcoming engagement with industry and community partners. Members requested a future update on implementation of the district’s project stability framework for construction procurement, as well as discussion of student-privacy policies related to security cameras. A proposed Chief People Officer position was tabled, with direction for the superintendent to consult the three employee associations and return with the item in November or December; speakers cited an estimated annual cost of $170,000 to more than $200,000. The board approved the Elevate Ed career- and college-readiness item and the annual financial report, and tabled the budget advisory committee findings until November. The report noted that contracted services are among the district’s operating expenditures, but no specific contract award or vendor selection was identified.
