# 10.1.2026 Parking and Traffic Safety Committee

The City of Portsmouth Parking and Traffic Safety Committee met on September 30, 2026, to review parking and traffic-safety concerns. The committee approved a motion to prohibit parking on the west side of Middle Street for 60 feet north of Cabot Street, restoring the prior arrangement to improve sight lines; the restriction will be added to the ordinance at a later omnibus update. A request from residents at 402 State Street to improve driveway sight lines was placed on file, with city staff noting that mirrors are not approved on city-owned poles and committee members opposing removal of nearby public parking spaces.

Staff reported that South Street and Maplewood Avenue speeds did not meet the city’s thresholds for traffic-calming measures, though staff will consider returning a speed-feedback sign to South Street and explore improved crosswalk lighting near South Street and Summit. Maplewood Avenue is included in a future capital improvement project, identified for FY2029, involving waterline, sidewalk, and road work and possible intersection reconfiguration. Staff also introduced the city’s newly obtained Urban SDK speed-data tool and a beta online bicycle and pedestrian request form. No contract award, vendor selection, spending amount, or procurement vote was identified.
