# Transportation Commission: Meeting of September 30, 2026

The City of Madison Transportation Commission met September 30, 2026. The commission unanimously approved a Common Council referral to rename the Traffic Engineering Division the Mobility and Infrastructure Division; the change was scheduled for final Council consideration the following week. Staff also reported on the Marquette School Street pilot, funded through a federal Safe Streets and Roads for All grant, with an approximately $17,000 pilot budget. The pilot received positive community feedback, but staff said continued operation would require solutions to staffing and implementation challenges. No contract awards, vendor selections, or purchasing approvals were identified.

The commission unanimously approved the proposed geometry for Phase 1 of the Lake Forest neighborhood reconstruction, scheduled for 2027, with later phases planned for 2028 and 2029. The work includes street and utility reconstruction, curb and gutter, and limited sidewalk installation; staff cited narrow rights-of-way, mature trees, wetlands, drainage, and other site constraints. Commissioners also discussed upcoming revisions to the Complete Green Streets guide, including clearer trade-off and emergency-access guidance. No project contract or construction budget was presented for approval.
