# 9/29/2026 - CDSD Committee Meetings | Policy - 4:30//Academic - 5:00

The Central Dauphin School District’s Policy and Academic Committee meetings were held September 29, 2026. The Policy Committee discussed draft Policy 815.1 on artificial intelligence, covering staff and student use, age-appropriate instruction, academic honesty, and protecting personally identifiable information. Members voted to forward the policy to the full board, with renumbering and document-formatting corrections to be made. The committee also discussed whether training or other requirements should apply to outside agencies working with students; staff will review current practices and report back. Turnitin is already used at the high-school level, and expanding licenses to middle schools was raised as a possibility, with no purchase approved.

The Academic Committee received an informational update on a proposed transportation and logistics career program developed with the Dauphin County Technical School. The district would provide space, while the technical school would provide instructional staff; a joint Perkins grant application may seek funding for materials and staffing. The district is also exploring a gaming grant of up to $1 million, potentially through the Panther Ram foundation, for facility renovations and materials. No grant or spending approval was made, and the program is tentatively being considered for a 2027–28 start. The committee also clarified that full-day kindergarten includes classroom-led activities in areas such as art, music, and physical education, rather than instruction by specialist teachers.
