# LRFAC Meeting 9-15-26

The Greater Albany Public Schools Long Range Facilities Advisory Committee (LRFAC) met on September 15, 2026, to review facility priorities and potential projects for a bond measure. The discussed package totaled approximately $179.8 million, including about $7.66 million for the Tina–Central consolidation, $61.3 million for substantial replacement and modernization at West Albany High School, and $70 million for districtwide renovations; the total also included an estimated $8 million in potential grant funding for which the district may qualify. Members debated how to balance investments between South and West Albany, including whether South Albany’s administration space should be replaced and whether funds could instead address its unusable auditorium; the auditorium rigging work was estimated at roughly $300,000. These were planning discussions, not contract awards or formal spending approvals. The committee also reviewed HVAC temperature data and possible operational fixes, and discussed replacing mechanical systems in the hottest schools as a high community priority.

A consultant reported results from a 374-person survey: 67% initially favored a bond framed as maintaining the current property-tax rate of about $2.24 per $1,000 of assessed value, while support was 57% when respondents were told that most funding would go to the two high schools. Members discussed public messaging focused on essential student and facility needs, fiscal responsibility, and explaining that the proposed rate would not increase. No procurement votes, vendor selections, or contract actions were identified. A Board work session and meeting to consider recommendations were announced for October 19, 2026; members also referenced a policy requiring the long-range facilities plan to be revisited every five years.
