# Art in Public Places Board Meeting, September 17, 2026

The City of Longmont Art in Public Places Board met on September 17, 2026. The main capital-project discussion concerned the First and Main transit center, a five-story facility with about 700 parking stalls that will serve RTD bus rapid transit, expected to begin in 2028. The project includes $16.4 million from RTD/FastTracks and $4 million in state transit-oriented development funding, along with other sources. Staff described a possible allocation of approximately 1% of project costs for public art, while noting that some urban-renewal funding may not be eligible for that use. The board discussed a large southern garage wall as a potential mural site; staff will continue materials and construction coordination, and the proposal is expected to go to City Council in October. No contract award or final art selection for this project was made at this meeting.

The board received an update that a selection panel had chosen three finalists for the flag project; their designs will undergo NAVA review, followed by a community preference poll and a planned City Council presentation on November 3. One artist contract was still being finalized. Members also discussed, without deciding, whether to extend current Art on the Move sculpture loans or adopt two-year rotations; the current stipend is $1,000 per sculpture for one year. Other discussion included whether to replace the museum roundabout sculpture, with staff asked to bring photos and measurements for a future discussion. The board unanimously approved the August minutes and voted on meeting logistics, including holding the December meeting by Zoom and setting the 2027 meeting schedule and location; no procurement award was approved.
