FAA airworthiness directive requiring flight-control and related computer updates for Airbus A330-941 aircraft

**Buyer:** Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)
**Posted:** October 27, 2026
**Identifier:** 2026-21861

The FAA issued an airworthiness directive requiring updates to certain Airbus A330-941 aircraft, rather than soliciting a purchase or service contract.
- **Government buyer and issuing authority:** U.S. Department of Transportation, Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
- **OEM:** **Airbus SAS**, manufacturer of the affected Model A330-941 airplanes. The directive references procedures in an European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) airworthiness directive.
- **Required aircraft updates:** Install a new Flight Control Primary Computer (FCPC) standard and complete applicable concurrent modifications to the FCPC, flight management system, guidance and envelope computer, flight warning computer, and electronic instrument system.
- **Other requirements:** Use serviceable FCPCs and do not install certain prohibited parts. The directive was prompted by a triple PRIM FAULT in the FCPC at touchdown.
- **Scope and estimated compliance cost:** The FAA estimates 39 U.S.-registered airplanes are affected, with compliance costs of up to $9,497 per airplane and up to $370,383 across U.S. operators.
- **Procurement status:** This is a regulatory airworthiness directive, not a procurement opportunity; no contract line items, quantities for purchase, or contract period are provided.

### Description

The FAA issued a final rule establishing an airworthiness directive for certain Airbus SAS Model A330-941 airplanes. The directive responds to an occurrence of a triple PRIM FAULT in the Flight Control Primary Computer at touchdown, which could result in loss of autobrake and thrust reversers and reduced airplane control. It requires installation of a new FCPC standard and applicable concurrent modifications, and prohibits installation of certain parts. The directive is effective December 1, 2026.
