NHLBI seeks a Scientific Coordinating Center to support the PREEMPT-PF pulmonary fibrosis research program.
- **Government buyer:** National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI), within the National Institutes of Health; the work is part of the NHLBI-SI initiative.
- **Requested service:** Establish and operate the PREEMPT-PF Scientific Coordinating Center (SCC), coordinating program infrastructure, scientific oversight, recruitment, data collection and analysis, data quality, workforce development, and integration with other NHLBI-SI components.
  - With support from the SICC, the SCC will solicit and manage mechanistic pilot projects; clinical research projects are expected to be solicited separately.
- **Research focus:** Use deep phenotyping, systems biology, clinical epidemiology, imaging, and existing and new data to study progression from healthy lung to pulmonary fibrosis and identify risk factors, biomarkers, and therapeutic targets.
- **Notable requirements:** Applicants must provide an operational plan with measurable milestones and completion criteria, data management and sharing plans, security and privacy protections, relevant experience, and a three-year budget. Open-source or unlimited rights for non-commercial software and related technical materials are encouraged.

### Description

This Research Opportunity Announcement seeks applications for the Scientific Coordinating Center (SCC) for Pioneering Research for Early Evaluation and Mechanistic PreempTion of Pulmonary Fibrosis (PREEMPT-PF), part of the NHLBI-SI Enabled Precision Medicine Initiative. The SCC will establish program infrastructure and scientific oversight, support recruitment and data collection and analysis, ensure data quality, coordinate pilot projects, and support clinical research projects. The work will use deep phenotyping, clinical epidemiology, imaging, and systems biology to investigate early mechanisms of progressive pulmonary fibrosis and identify biomarkers and potential preemptive treatment targets. The application process has two stages: a Letter of Request followed by a full application for teams that may be invited; the anticipated award term is three years starting June 2026.
