The Apache Junction Parks and Recreation Commission met on October 7, 2026. Staff reported on capital and maintenance projects, including irrigation work at Prospector Park, scheduled skate-park concrete and rail repairs by a contractor from October 14–21, and a change to the Rodeo and Event Center Phase 2A schedule: removal of the existing announcer’s booth and installation of a temporary booth is expected to begin in mid-November. Staff described the temporary booth as a cost-effective, repurposable storage-container structure; no contract value or vendor was identified. The strategic-plan review cited approximately $9.6 million in capital facility projects completed in the prior fiscal year, about $6.7 million budgeted for the current year, and a $2.6 million parks operating budget excluding personnel. Commissioners reviewed the draft plan and requested further information and edits; no final adoption or procurement award occurred at this meeting.

Staff also reported that City Council had unanimously approved the Parks and Recreation fee changes the previous night, following the commission’s earlier recommendations. The changes include a 10% increase in multi-generational center memberships and higher facility and personnel reservation fees; they take effect in January 2027. The commission approved its agenda and September 2 minutes by roll call and scheduled its next regular meeting for November 4, 2026. Other discussion covered park closures and storm repairs, summer aquatics participation, events and sponsorships, and future strategic-plan measures. No new bids, vendor selections, or contract awards were identified.
