The City of Alameda City Council meeting on October 6, 2026, included one major property transaction: the Council unanimously approved the first reading of an ordinance authorizing a 37-month lease with Longshot Space Technologies for space at Alameda Point. The proposed lease covers about 9,200 square feet indoors and 7,400 square feet of yard space, with initial rent of $5,670 per month and annual 3.5% increases; staff estimates $217,018 in total revenue. The lease includes a one-month improvement credit and a 60-day termination provision, preserving flexibility for the future Depave Park project. A second reading is required before the ordinance takes effect. The Council also received the final evaluation of the Rise Up Alameda guaranteed-income pilot, funded by a $4.6 million ARPA allocation approved in 2022; the presentation reported improved savings and mental well-being among participants, with no consistent housing or food-security impacts. Staff said a contract for an economic development strategic plan was expected to come before Council on October 20, while separate community engagement and analysis on data centers and resource use are planned; no data-center application was pending.
The Council unanimously directed staff to develop proposed restrictions on civil immigration enforcement use of city-owned properties, inventory relevant city property and document/report related requests, reaffirm the city’s sanctuary-city commitment, and explore zoning options at Alameda Point. It also unanimously advanced a referral for further review of the Clement Avenue truck route and alternatives before physical changes are made. A resolution adding disclosure of campaign contributions over $100 from a single source to the Council handbook passed 4–1. The short-term rental ordinance was withdrawn from the agenda and deferred to a later meeting. No action was reported from the closed session.
