The Town of Southington Planning and Zoning Commission met on October 6, 2026. The commission approved a special permit and site plan for a 55-plus community at 310 Buckland Street, comprising four duplexes and one single-family home, with one workforce-affordable unit. The site plan approval was conditioned on Health and Water Department approval. The commission also approved a site plan for 181 Main Street to replace a restaurant building with retail/office space and two studio apartments, and tabled the 20 Spring Street restaurant-conversion application at the applicant’s request. It approved a referral for a lease area at 5 East Summer Street so UNICO can restore a historic oven structure, and approved release of erosion and sedimentation bonds of $13,320, $26,400, $11,000, $1,000, and $16,560 for various properties. No contract awards or purchasing decisions were identified.

The commission voted to establish an affordable-housing subcommittee to work with town staff on potential locations and ways to increase the town’s affordable housing stock. A commissioner proposed a separate effort to consider zoning requirements for data centers, including power, cooling, and decommissioning, but no formal action on that proposal was recorded. The affordable-housing and data-center discussions may inform future zoning and development opportunities.
