Osseo Area Schools Board work session, October 6, 2026: Finance staff outlined a recurring structural deficit, with projected annual deficits of roughly $15–19 million and about $20 million in adjustments needed to maintain the district’s 5.4% fund-balance target. Staff described two approaches—incremental inflationary reductions or a more comprehensive path toward a structurally balanced budget by fiscal 2030—and said the district would begin its long-range financial planning process. No budget action or vote was taken; the board is expected to receive further education and discuss guiding principles in January. Staff also reported a transportation agreement signed for ten years: after increases of about 30% and 8%, rates are set to rise 3% annually for the next eight years. No vendor or contract number was stated. The district cited a grant of just over $2 million toward a planned fleet of 11 electric buses.
The board received an enrollment update and a progress report on the Crestview rebuild and repurposing, which is planned to house preschool, cultural, family-engagement, and professional-development programs. Staff said the professional-development space could reduce that department’s rental costs by about $13,000 annually; no project cost or procurement action was discussed. Other topics included reopening in-district transfers, enrollment capacity, and a planned change to how students may remain at a school after a midyear address change. These were discussed without a vote at this work session.
