At the October 7, 2026 regular session of the Van Zandt County Commissioners Court, commissioners approved a contract with Chenabal Engineering for construction contract administration on the Cedar Creek Flood Retarding Structure 103 repair (project TX2827). The project is funded through the Texas soil and conservation program and is valued at about $4.7 million; the engineering administration contract is approximately $37,000. The court also approved a county right-of-way permit for Dixie Land Energy LLC’s pipeline, subject to the discussed requirements, including proper burial depth and the operator’s responsibility to secure any needed landowner permissions. Commissioners approved FY2027 mileage reimbursement at 76 cents per mile and updated per diem rates, including a $68 daily total.
TxDOT staff briefed the court on planned safety improvements at the SH 64/FM 314 and SH 243/FM 47 intersections, including restriping, overhead warning beacons, speed-limit changes under review, and a signal study; the SH 64/FM 314 project is currently planned for letting in late 2027, with possible acceleration if funding becomes available. No construction contract or bid was awarded for those improvements. The court tabled a proposal to implement citation-upload software across the four justice courts while staff finalized the wording; the discussion cited a $1,250 cost for all four courts and a proposed $2 fee per uploaded citation, offset by a court-cost fee. The court also accepted a $75 library donation. Other actions included proclaiming National 4-H Week and approving a library board appointment.
