The North Kingstown School Committee business meeting was held October 6, 2026. The committee approved the elementary schools’ 60% construction documents, based on a current base estimate of $23,994,145. The work covers six schools and includes media-center renovations, secure vestibules, roof recoveries, accessibility and code improvements, and selected gym-divider replacements, with construction planned across summers 2027 and 2028. The high school roof project is nearing completion and is reported to be under budget; skylights are expected to arrive October 15, with closeout anticipated in November. For Davisville Middle School, the committee received a design update but took no approval action; cost estimates and discussion of whether to move project alternates into the base bid are to return through the Building Advisory Committee. A construction-management RFQ for Davisville was issued September 28, with proposals due October 16. A Shawmut contract document addressing tariff and subcontractor pricing risks is expected to come to the committee at its next meeting.
The committee approved reallocating Gait and Seek funds to purchase sideline stadium chairs after the original planned storage units proved more costly than expected. Administration reported a $31,188 Rural Health Transformation Program grant for developing a healthcare career and technical education program, with funds to be spent by September 2027; future program costs may depend on subsequent grant awards. On school payment processing, administration presented options for absorbing or sharing fees, with the committee expressing a preference to continue the district-funded option for the current year; negotiations and final contract terms remain pending, and no new vote was recorded on that direction. The committee also discussed late-bus access and related costs, but took no action to expand service.
