At the October 6, 2026, regular Auburn City Council meeting, the Council approved several procurement and development-related items. It authorized a two-year animal-sheltering contract with CARE Humane Society for $214,683 in FY2027, with FY2028 funding to be negotiated; approved assignment of the city’s FY2026 financial-audit agreement to Fraser & Dieter following a firm merger; and approved a development infrastructure agreement for Sterling Auburn Cottages that includes $368,500 toward traffic improvements near Kent Drive, construction-traffic restrictions, and stormwater obligations. The developer also agreed to return later with a proposed landscaping addendum for additional buffering. The Council approved a $9,871,653.20 contract with AGX Site Works for Phase One of the North Donahue Drive widening project and a contract with Thompson Engineering for construction inspection and project-management services, capped at $770,861. Staff advised that the project was then estimated to be about $232,000 over budget, subject to possible savings and later budget reconciliation. These contract motions carried; one council member abstained from the North Donahue contract vote.

The Council also approved FY2027 tenant leases at Boykin Community Center, noting that rents are intentionally kept low for community-service providers, and approved a tax abatement for Maxim Solutions Auburn LLC, which plans to invest approximately $1.36 million and hire 15 employees over four years. A proposed moratorium on new lounge conditional-use approvals failed on a 4–4 vote; Council members nevertheless indicated support for staff to develop and present regulatory options. Discussion also covered neighborhood concerns about Sterling Cottages and a separate proposed subdivision access near Cary Woods Elementary School. No contract award or procurement action was identified for that subdivision discussion.
