The City of Shawnee Planning Commission met on October 7, 2026. It approved the August 5 meeting minutes and, after public hearings, voted to recommend approval of a rezoning request for 415 West Oakland Street and 401 South Kickapoo Avenue from R-2 to R-1, enabling the owner to seek a lot split for two existing detached homes. The commission also approved a preliminary plat for a proposed 29-duplex development near 34th Street and Beard Street, planned in three phases with a dog park and communal space. Discussion focused on creek and floodplain concerns, stormwater conveyance, traffic, and utilities. The developer said the project would include a private sewer system and lift station and approximately $400,000 in infrastructure investment, including water-main work; no city contract award or procurement vote was identified. Final plat and development steps remain, with stormwater and other requirements to be addressed in subsequent review.

Community Development reported efforts to warn applicants about payment scams, noting that the city does not request wire transfers, and gave updates on school-zone and park walk audits and a walk-to-school plan being developed with OU’s Department of Public Health. Commissioners also recognized recent city sidewalk investment. No other purchasing decisions, bid approvals, or contract awards were discussed.
