The City of Sammamish Planning Commission met on October 7, 2026, to discuss guidance for the city’s centers housing strategy. Commissioners and Community Development staff considered how to distribute housing capacity among the Town Center and other centers, including land use, walkability, open space, amenities, and commercial development. Staff described the work as a modest adjustment to existing zoning to support state housing-law compliance, with the Town Center likely remaining near 2,000 units and only a few hundred units potentially shifting among other centers. The commission generally supported a simple, center-specific approach and deferred more extensive urban-design and centers planning to a future effort; staff said they were aiming to have zoning changes in place by the end of June.
Discussion also covered maintaining neighborhood access and grocery retail, creating gathering spaces, and potentially exploring affordable housing at the Pine Lake park-and-ride in partnership with King County Metro. Staff said preliminary inquiries had begun, but no agreement or funding decision was reported. The city emphasized keeping the current work low-cost given budget constraints. No procurement activity, contract awards, vendor selections, or spending-related votes were identified. The commission did approve by motion the appointment of John as acting chair for the October 15 meeting.
