The City of Atascadero Planning Commission’s October 6, 2026 regular meeting focused on a comprehensive zoning code update implementing the recently adopted General Plan. After public comment, the Commission approved update segments A–F by unanimous votes among participating members (4–0 on segments A–D; 5–0 on E–F). The update reorganizes the code, revises zoning districts and permitted uses, and streamlines some entitlement reviews. Notable changes include allowing certain small-scale commercial uses in multifamily areas with a conditional use permit, increasing notification radius for specified amendments from 300 to 500 feet, setting a 30-hour weekly minimum for ground-floor retail in the downtown commercial district, and allowing some downtown outdoor amplified sound without a separate permit. Residents asked the Commission to reconsider multifamily zoning along Sia Road; no change to those designations was made during the meeting.
No contract awards, bids, vendor selections, or procurement spending approvals were identified. In the director’s report, staff said construction permits for Chick-fil-A had been approved and described ongoing construction at two fire stations and police-station improvements, but provided no contract or dollar amounts. Staff also previewed future parks and recreation and housing-element planning work, with funding for the housing-element update still to be identified.
