At the October 7, 2026, St. Martin Parish School Board finance and regular meeting, the board considered health-plan costs and capital purchases. After a presentation by Brown & Brown and Humana representatives, the board approved moving approximately 280 Medicare-eligible retirees and spouses to Humana’s Part D prescription plan, proposed for January 1. The quoted cost was about $164 per member per month; presenters estimated roughly $1 million in annual savings to the district, citing lower prescription claims and dispensing costs, with minimal disruption to pharmacies and covered medications. The board also approved purchasing five regular buses and three spare buses using bond funds; the buses were available on the lot, and purchasing before a January price increase was said to save about $4,000 per bus.
Star Services presented an HVAC assessment and proposal for work across 10 school sites, citing potential capital avoidance and annual costs of about $1.2 million. The board did not approve a contract: it tabled the item for further review and discussion before a later meeting. Separately, members discussed whether hourly employees should continue receiving pay for summer Fridays when they do not work 40 hours; staff were asked to estimate the cost and return the issue to next month’s agenda. The board also voted to leave the superintendent’s contract decision to the board taking office in January.
