At the October 13, 2026 Paducah City Commission meeting, the commission heard an update on Hotel Metropolitan restoration work supported by a Mellon Foundation grant and city partnership. Work described included repaired historic windows, siding and paint, porch and ramp improvements, drainage, and a bathroom and storage area. Commissioners also discussed a proposed $14,920 contract modification with PFGW Architects for historic-preservation services to pursue tax credits for the City Hall stabilization project. The transcript records a motion and second on the modification, but does not capture a final vote. Staff said the project may qualify for state historic tax credits and that the application deadline is April 15. The commission approved, as part of the consent agenda, an application for a $3,000 Kentucky League of Cities liability grant to help reimburse playground-equipment replacement and related safety costs.
Other discussion included animal-control oversight following stray dogs being found at Noble Park. The city’s share of contracted animal-control services was reported as $363,000 for the prior fiscal year; commissioners anticipated a future joint meeting with the county and raised the possibility of a public forum, but no action or spending decision was recorded. Public commenters also proposed stronger animal-breeder and abandonment rules and a change to the city’s gross-receipts tax structure; these were requests for future consideration, not adopted measures.
