🏥 Healthcare Grants & Funding Regulatory Compliance

The October 7, 2026, Northampton County Gracedale Oversight Committee meeting focused on the facility’s operational assessment, staffing, regulatory performance, public image, and finances. Director Thomas Carson reviewed the 2023 Affinity assessment and urged the committee to allow time to address its findings before commissioning another study, which he said would repeat known recommendations. Staffing costs and the agency contract were a major procurement-related discussion: administrators reported approximately $14 million in agency staffing costs so far in 2026, and said the WAE staffing contract, signed in August 2025, automatically renews unless notice is given. The county pays only for shifts used, and administrators said current hourly rates are lower than under prior contracts. They described the recent nursing-supervisor pay adjustment and efforts to recruit county employees as steps toward reducing agency reliance. No procurement vote or contract award occurred at this meeting.

Deputy Director Kelly Prentice reported that Gracedale is applying for a government grant capped at $150,000 to replace its unsupported WanderGuard resident-safety system; the quoted replacement cost is $187,000, so county budget funds would also be needed if the grant is awarded. Administrators also reported recent Department of Health citations, staffing vacancies, and a projected county contribution of about $1.5 million for the year based on current trends. The committee requested more regular operational and staffing data, including staff-satisfaction results, and scheduled its next meeting for December 2 at 4:00 p.m. No motions or spending approvals were recorded.
