Washtenaw County Board of Commissioners working session and board meeting, October 7, 2026: County staff presented the budget outlook, citing rising personnel, benefit, and operating costs and forecasting pressure on the general fund. The board discussed a proposed $1.5 million initial allocation for health-related services, with a longer-term plan to follow; no final decision on that allocation is captured. Staff also reported that an RFP was out for a consultant to review the methodology used to calculate municipal police-service-unit costs. The consultant’s cost was not yet known, and selection was targeted for the fourth quarter of 2026. The county’s Eastern Washington Community Recreation Center project had three RFPs out for strength and cardio equipment, facility furniture, and generators; construction kickoff was tentatively set for November 5.
The board approved a host community agreement with Washington Solar Energy LLC, whose project representatives identified Invenergy, providing for a one-time $300,000 payment to the county based on 150 megawatts at $2,000 per megawatt. Other spending actions included approval of a $20,000 Huntington Foundation grant and a $30,000 allocation to the Interfaith Hospitality Network. The board also approved a new 24-hour clerk subscription fee and an emergency management work agreement. No vendor was selected or contract awarded for the consultant or recreation-center RFPs during the meeting.
