The Washington Elementary School District Governing Board held its regular meeting and executive session on October 8, 2026. The board heard concerns from Sunny Slope staff and families about limits on student-activity fundraising involving outside vendors, including Kona Ice, Jamba Juice, and snack sales. Speakers said the proceeds fund student events, incentives, and activities, and asked the district to reconsider the restrictions. A board member asked the superintendent to provide information on mitigating the loss of these funds and on whether vendors that comply with the Healthy Schools Act could be reinstated. No vendor contract or procurement award was made. The board also discussed revisions to the conflict-of-interest policy clarifying board and staff responsibilities related to contracts; optional training access through the district’s LMS was discussed.
The board approved the annual financial report, due to the state by October 15, and the consent agenda. The report summarized district revenues and expenditures, including state-controlled funds, federal and state grants, and the 2022 bond fund; it noted that no additional bond funds were sold during the year. Funds support operations such as building maintenance, HVAC repairs, fire lanes and parking lots, library books, curriculum, furniture, and computers. No specific new spending authorization, contract award, or bid approval was identified. The board also voted to table agenda items A through D.
