The Jeffco Public Schools Board of Education study session on September 29, 2026, considered the remand of the Mesa K8 charter application. The board discussed the school’s projected budget and enrollment, sustainability after grant funding, and commitments presented to the Colorado State Board of Education, including transportation and before- and after-school care. First Student was identified as a potential transportation provider, but the school said it could not issue an RFP before board approval; no vendor was selected and no procurement action was taken. The board postponed action on the superintendent’s conditional-approval recommendation until October 15. The proposed resolution had included enrollment milestones—at least 72 students by the end of January 2027 and a target of 96 by the end of the school year—but those terms were not adopted at this meeting. Staff were asked to provide a comparison of commitments in the original application and those presented at the state-board appeal, along with relevant milestone information, ahead of the next vote.

The board also received a strategic capital master plan and facilities explorer presentation from district staff and Perkins Eastman. The presentation estimated approximately $3 billion in capital need using a 50-year lifecycle assumption and more than $500 million in existing facility deficiencies; HVAC was identified as the largest critical-priority category, and more than half of district buildings are over 50 years old. The district described the explorer as a public-facing, regularly updated planning tool for facility and enrollment data. No capital budget allocation, construction contract, bid approval, or vendor award was made. The board also voted to table two monitoring reports for a later meeting.
