The Charleston County Countywide Intergovernmental Flood Prevention Task Force met at the Town of Mount Pleasant on September 12, 2026, to review flood-mitigation needs and coordinate work among municipalities, county agencies, and SCDOT. Procurement and funding updates included the Central Park drainage project: the City of Charleston has selected a contractor, with the contract expected to go before City Council in about two weeks; if approved, work could begin around mid-November. For the Aendale Avenue intersection, the project team is revising a consultant’s design scope and fee. Existing funds are available for the design amendment, while construction funding has not been determined; a preliminary estimate of roughly $2 million was mentioned for a box culvert crossing. No task-force vote or contract award was reported.

Other funding and project updates included a $500,000 community investment allocation for a Bayfront-area project on James Island, and Sullivan’s Island’s ongoing stormwater work supported by state and federal earmarks and other funding. For Fleming Road, the county is preparing plans and seeking a funding source, with a goal of keeping a small project under $100,000 to move it forward under applicable procurement procedures. Members also discussed drainage maintenance and project planning across several neighborhoods, a possible renewal of the stormwater general permit next year, and an SCDOT drainage failure on Oak Street that residents said is causing sinkholes and property damage. The task force requested agency follow-up on easements, permitting, project scopes, and potential funding; no procurement-related motion or vote was recorded.
