At the July 22, 2026, Lancaster County Council special meeting, presenters updated council on the Lindsay Pettus Greenway. The project has raised $12.5 million and spent about $10.5 million to date; a planned extension toward the Melbourne Steel Soccer Complex and recreation center is estimated at $3.5 million, with about $1.1 million available from capital project sales tax funds. The city also sought a $3 million state appropriation, whose status was uncertain, and the project is described as ready to proceed when funding is available. A separate extension supported by a South Carolina DOT TAP grant is in engineering, with contract letting anticipated in early 2027 and construction expected around March. No contract awards or vendor selections were reported.

Council unanimously approved a budget amendment for the county’s evidence-storage facility, a partially ARPA-funded public-safety capital project that was substantially complete. The amendment restores $1.216 million previously authorized and adds approximately $30,027 from the general fund’s unassigned fund balance to complete and close out the project. Council also considered extending the residential development moratorium for 90 days, but the transcript does not capture the vote outcome. Members unanimously approved entering executive session to receive legal advice on potential regional park contractual matters; no contract decision was reported.
