At its August 10, 2026 regular meeting, the Sumter School District Board of Trustees received a financial update and approved several purchasing, contract, and capital-project actions. The board unanimously approved $17,000 for live-broadcast equipment; a $20,270 change order for Hillcrest Middle School sewer work; and $8,313.94 for the McMillan Pazdan Smith fee associated with the Sumter High School softball building. It also approved grounds-maintenance contracts for the listed district schools, fee waivers for Companies A, B, and C, and proceeding with multipurpose-room projects at Lamar and Millwood Elementary Schools. The board unanimously shifted funding for the Sumter High School weight room and Crestwood project phases 3 and 4 from fund balance to proceeds from the fall 2026 capital bonds. Contracting vendors for the grounds work were not identified in the transcript.

The chief financial officer reported that the FY2027 budget was approximately $176.6 million and included a $6.4 million fund-balance need; the district was also addressing a larger FY2026 shortfall and described expenditure controls and fund-balance protection as priorities. Staff reported that radio and surveillance-camera equipment for buses had been ordered, with no cost stated. The superintendent also reported that an outside vendor had begun an academic-program study at middle and high schools, with results expected in mid-September or early October; no contract amount or board vote on that study was stated. The board also approved changes to the student code of conduct, but the discussion did not identify a legal or regulatory change affecting procurement.
